I’d stayed over with Alistair and Anne Barton from Pray for Scotland. Had a lovely time getting to know them and also attended a prayer meeting at the church they attended. Really special praying with such seasoned believers who know prayer works!
It was a very long day by the time I had got the train back to Edinburgh Haymarket and then visited the bike shop for a new bottom bracket. I then visited Holyrood the Scottish Parliament and due to the change in first minister spent sometime praying there..
Then followed cycle routes out the city east towards Berwick.. it was initially delightful rolling hills..fields of OSR all coming into bloom the smell of spring was in the air and for the first time on my ride I actually managed to take my coat off and ride in my shorts and Jersey. I’m not grumbling wind and rain or midges and I’d take wind and rain everytime.
I continued East and (as I never look at the altitude gain or loss) I then came across some not so insignificant hills!
Had a zoom call with my team at the border and made a point of blessing Scotland and England.. adding to the many prayers that had been prayed for the region.
I pressed through and after nine and a half hours in the saddle (I thought I’d done 8) I arrived in Berwick. Teated myself to fish and chips. Prayed at the old bridge over the river the Ln headed to tesco to collect some supplies for breakfast.
I had tried to find campsite, air bandb or hotel but didn’t want to spend too much as I would be out the door riding at 7.30am.. the result a bivi out on some common ground next to tesco and a farmers field.
